toon botwin is a mixed media artist, painter, photographer, and music producer who makes and shows her work in new york city and beyond. she is the founder of monkey salon, a collective of artists, musicians, and writers who make stuff. toon's work appears in the critically acclaimed lunchbox recordings debut cd release, stories to play. she has created text and design for the lbr website, which regularly featured her artwork. photographs toon took in france and belgium can be seen on the covers of dj production duo [of which toon was a member] feng shui's mixed cds, slow motion engineer and 6800 known languages. toon is currently with online galleries quinn the eskimo [nyc], art bureau [sf], funkier than thou [uk], and monkey salon [nyc]. she has shown her work in new york city, brooklyn, jersey city, beacon, ny, and brussels. her work is in numerous private collections in california, new york, jc nj, france, chicago, florida, brussels, and canada. toon's work has been published in floating holiday and art bureau issues no. 3 and no. 9. she will also have a new b/w mixed media piece published in the upcoming art bureau anniversary edition 2007 [issue no. 13]. toon is currently collaborating with ff blu [aka jason gamm] on his debut cd - between departure and arrival - to be released on monkey salon recordings. born out of a strange, beautiful, rare, and highly unusual universal metaphysicalisticesque occurence, jason joins toon in all things monkey salon. toon is working toward her doctorate in primate observations centered on the extraordinary relationship between monkeys and music. she has, also, in the past, served as the ambassador of goodwill for the small and little known island of bonobo.
